Multi Dimensional Platformer

I'm titling this as a multi dimensional platformer, because it became the most "meta" project I've made to date. The premise was: How could a classic platformer work in VR? And, is it possible to make a "casual" VR game, where you can sit and relax?

Gameplay

The gameplay is from a known platform game, but plays out from the perspective of the 2D character inside the television "box". You can either play it from a first person perspective, or... you can watch the game as it plays out, but mirrored from inside the screen. It all depends on where you turn your head in VR.

You control yourself and watch yourself control the game... Or watch yourself control the game you watch!?

Controls

Use left touch controller as a traditional NES controller. Left / Right steer with the thumbstick, and jump with X.

Tech

Basically made two games. One first person and one pixelart 2D side-scroller. They both move in sync, and the player decides which one makes most sense at the moment.

Software
  • Characters modelled in Blender and textured in 3D-Coat
  • Characters animated in Houdini
  • Level assets modelled in Lightwave and textured in Substance
